our story

1928

Bert Clark & John Mackay Founded by Mr Clark & Mr Mackay, located in Adelaide Street, Brisbane City.

Print was produced using wooden type, with each word being composed one letter at a time using hand fed and foot powered printing presses.

1945

Ian Mackay returned from WWII and joined the firm followed soon after by his brother Garth.

1964

Neil Mackay (Ian’s son) joined the firm while undergoing an Apprenticeship as a Printing Machinist.

Mid 1960s

Clark & Mackay purchased a factory and moved to 386 Montague Rd, West End.

The firm consisted of 5 Letterpress, 1 Offset – no Bindery equipment apart from a Stapler & Punching machine.

Late 1960s

Purchase and merge of Coronation Press began the evolution of what became a rapidly growing firm.

1969
Ross Mackay (Ian’s second son) joined the firm doing an Apprenticeship as a Compositor. This began the transition from hand set type and hot metal composition to computers and digital settings. The building at West End was extended twice, between 1969 – 1994.
1994

West End building was sold due to the evolving fashion industry in the area and moved to Rocklea – quadrupling in size.

1997

Paul Mackay (Neil’s son) joined the firm while undergoing an Apprenticeship as a Printing Machinist.

Purchase and integration of Leader Press (the printing arm of the Catholic Church).

2002
Purchase of new state of the art digital presses launched a new era for Clark & Mackay – embracing the evolution of digital technology.
2014
Relocated premises from 1 Railway Parade, Rocklea to a more modern establishment at 7 Colebard Street East, Acacia Ridge.
2020
Clark and Mackay was sold to OJ Creative Industries, directed by Ocean Reeve and Jason Smith. Through this development we also merged with Australasia’s leading Assisted Independent Book Publishing house, Ocean Reeve Publishing.
Today
Currently, with the integration of new technology and with the upgrading of machinery over the years Clark & Mackay now undergo all facets of print media including digital printing, variable data and bulk mail facilities (allowing for the insertion of print media into envelopes/plastic sleeves).
